Fully Online Private Autism Assessment for Teenagers
Professional autism assessments delivered online for young people aged 10 and over
A fully online assessment may be the right option if you want a professional, thorough autism assessment without travelling to a clinic.

Why autism assessments are often needed in adolescence
Start Your AssessmentWhat the online assessment includes
Our fully online autism assessment includes:
- detailed developmental history gathering
- current experience and functioning review
- observation of social communication and interaction
- ADOS-2 Module 4 observation where appropriate
- clinical interpretation using DSM-5 criteria
Parents or carers can join sessions from different locations if helpful.
Use of ADOS-2 Module 4 for teenagers
For teenagers with fluent language, we administer ADOS-2 Module 4 online
We do not offer fully online assessments for children aged 9 and under. This is because:
- play-based ADOS-2 modules cannot be reliably delivered online
- there is no evidence that Module 3 retains validity when completed remotely
This clinical decision sets us apart from providers offering online assessments that are not evidence-based.
Validity of online autism assessments for teenagers
The 2023 Royal College of Psychiatrists supported study demonstrated equivalent outcomes between online and in-person Module 4 assessments, confirming that a fully online approach can be clinically robust for adolescents with fluent speech.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a teenager have a fully online autism assessment?
Yes. Teenagers aged 10 and over with fluent language can have a fully online private autism assessment. The assessment uses ADOS-2 Module 4 — the version designed for verbal adolescents and adults — alongside a detailed developmental history and clinical evaluation. It follows the same clinical standards as an in-person assessment and is delivered by our experienced UK autism clinicians.
Why are online autism assessments not offered for children under 10?
We do not offer fully online autism assessments for children aged 9 and under. Younger children are typically assessed using play-based modules of the ADOS-2 (Modules 1, 2 or 3), which involve hands-on observation that cannot be reliably administered through a screen. There is also no published evidence that ADOS-2 Module 3 retains its validity when delivered remotely. For children under 10, we therefore recommend an in-person assessment to ensure the result is clinically robust.
Is an online autism assessment as accurate as in-person for teenagers?
Yes, for teenagers and young people who meet the criteria for ADOS-2 Module 4. Research published in 2023 by Cambridge University Press, on behalf of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, compared online and in-person ADOS-2 assessments and found no difference in total scores between the two formats. Online Module 4 assessments produce equivalent outcomes to in-person ones when delivered correctly, with the same diagnostic robustness.
Will parents or carers be involved in my teenager’s autism assessment?
Yes. Parents and carers play an important role in the assessment, particularly in providing developmental history — early childhood information that the teenager themselves may not be able to recall. Parents and carers can also join the relevant assessment sessions via video call, and they do not need to be in the same place as the teenager: if it is helpful, separated parents or other caregivers can join from different locations.
Can an online autism assessment help with school or SEN support?
Yes. A full diagnostic autism assessment is required for formal processes such as an EHCP application, and our online assessments meet that standard. Beyond formal applications, the outcome of an assessment — including the diagnostic report and any recommendations — can be shared with your teenager’s school or college to inform SEN planning, reasonable adjustments and day-to-day support.
Can I use a private autism assessment as part of my EHCP application?
Private autism assessments can be used as evidence that your child has special educational needs when applying for an EHCP. In law, there is no difference in reports or advice provided by private professionals and those employed by the NHS.
You can find out more here.
Will my child’s school accept a private autism assessment?
Yes, schools and nurseries must accept a private autism assessment that has been completed by registered professionals and meets National standards.
Is an online autism assessment suitable for teenagers with anxiety?
Yes — often very much so. Many teenagers find an online assessment significantly less stressful than attending an unfamiliar clinic environment, particularly if they experience anxiety, sensory sensitivities or distress around new settings and new people. Being assessed from home means a familiar room, no travel, no waiting room and the ability to take breaks as needed, all of which tend to help teenagers show up as themselves during the session.
